In my personal opinion, now and when I obtain my degree I will believe it in myself that I have signed a morale contract to uphold the ethical principles set out by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) and the Engineering Council (EC), and follow them throughout my career. I will strive to advocate these rules in every aspect of engineering where they may apply, for example; leadership and communication, honesty and integrity, law, the environment, respect for life, public good; accuracy and rigour. Just as people with a medical background have the Hippocratic oath, I see the rules of conduct implemented by the RAE and EC as my own oath. I will also hope to inspire my peers and colleagues to join me in keeping an ethical standpoint and forefront in every situation necessary. I will also aim to uphold and encourage the current and past rules set out by the IET, these rules are especially necessary from a lawful point of view. I have chosen to include this published article on engineering ethics (https://iesgeneralstudies.com/ethics-in-engineering-profession/) as it breaks down and covers all aspects of engineering and alongside case studies to prove the necessity of these principles.
